Sophia Chyun is often the first person construction and design professionals meet when they start using Houzz Pro, helping them hit the ground running. As a Client Onboarding Specialist, she teaches pros how to tailor the software to their workflows, guiding them through those early “aha” moments that set them up for long-term success.

How would you describe what you do?
When builders and designers sign up for Houzz Pro, I work with them for the first 90 days to teach them about our software and help them identify the best way to maximize results for their business. I learn how their business works, then help them to implement the tools in a way that fits their workflow. My goal is to make the software feel intuitive, powerful and genuinely helpful to the way they serve their clients.

Tell us about your career journey. How did you find Houzz?
Houzz was actually my first job after graduating from college, where I studied political science and international affairs. I was finishing school during the pandemic and trying to figure out what I wanted to do next. I love interior design and a friend who had applied to Houzz told me I should look into it. I’ve been here ever since.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love seeing the transformation that happens during the first 90 days after a pro signs up for Houzz Pro. Many pros come from other platforms or use manual methods like spreadsheets, and when they realize they can run everything in one place, their excitement is so tangible. Seeing the “Where has this been all these years?” reaction never gets old.

Is there a client story that stands out?
I have lots of great stories, but one that really stands out is an enterprise design team that used Houzz Pro in a truly customized way. They were especially excited about the Selections Tracker to assist with procurement. Going from spreadsheets to a centralized, visual system helped their whole team align on order status and approvals.

Previously, their workflow had been very manual, including copy-pasting data multiple times across different spreadsheets and presentation tools. Since implementing the Houzz Pro Clipper tool, that entire chain of steps is condensed to just a few clicks. The product is instantly captured and its details flow seamlessly from web to presentation to proposal. They’ve not only cut out hours of labor, but also eradicated the errors that inevitably come with copy-pasting.

We met weekly, shaped the tools around their specific workflow and I watched their confidence grow with every session. When their 90 days were up and they were ready to move on to our customer success team, it felt really bittersweet because we had built such a strong rhythm together, but I was so excited to see their progress.

What do your clients love most about Houzz Pro?
They love that Houzz Pro is truly all-in-one, with lead management, a website, project management tools, design features and payment in one place.

The biggest standout is always the 3D Floor Plan tool. Whether they’re scanning a room with our mobile app or uploading a blueprint to let AI trace the floorplan, pros are amazed at how fast and intuitive it is. Many tell me it’s the easiest 3D tool they’ve ever used and I love seeing them get up to speed with it so quickly.

What’s your favorite Houzz Pro feature?
Definitely the Clipper tool. It allows pros to save images and details of products from around the web in seconds. Designers tell me they’ve never used anything like it before and with the new AI update that fills in product details automatically, it’s a huge time-saver for their businesses.

The Selections tool is equally powerful. It gives pros and homeowners a clear view of every item across a project with just a click, plus the ability to export and filter it however they need. My clients absolutely love it.

What’s surprised you most about working at Houzz?
Just how quickly things evolve, in the best possible way! Our software tools are getting even more robust nonstop. You can feel how invested everyone is in building technology that truly supports our community of pros and helps them run stronger, more efficient businesses.

What’s the best part about working at Houzz?
The people really make Houzz. I’ve had wonderful managers who support and guide me and teammates who are always happy to jump in and help if I have a question. Even in a remote environment, the sense of community feels so strong. My co-workers have turned into real friends. A group of us even got Disneyland passes and meet up after work sometimes!

What advice would you give someone joining Houzz?
Say yes! There’s lots of opportunities here to take on different tasks or projects, so raise your hand even if it feels new or outside your comfort zone. Those moments can make a real difference in your career and personal growth.
How do you spend your time outside of work? I’ve recently gotten really into pottery. Throwing on the wheel is so relaxing. You have to be fully focused so your piece doesn’t tip, so it’s a great activity to help me switch everything else off.
