As a sales development representative on our Industry Solutions team in London, Sofia helps home professionals build their brands and connect with homeowners. When she’s not at work, Sofia enjoys practicing yoga and meditation, attending live music gigs and traveling.
How did you hear about Houzz?
I have always been interested in the high-quality home design showcased on Houzz and have used it for inspiration for years now. When I saw the opportunity to join the team, I didn’t hesitate to apply and combine my background in architecture, sales and marketing.
What brought you to this career path?
After studying and working in the field of architecture, I felt the need to explore other career opportunities to further educate myself and expand my experience. I decided to move into marketing and sales for a while, but always planned to incorporate these experiences with the creative world. Houzz offered me the chance to do both while continuing to develop myself as a professional.
What do you enjoy most about being a sales development representative?
I enjoy spotting talented home professionals and helping them to learn about how Houzz can impact their business. Seeing them grow their brand and begin new projects with homeowners on Houzz is really inspiring.
Our team is incredibly supportive and there’s an amazing spirit and cooperation between colleagues. I love that there are opportunities to grow personally and professionally at Houzz.
What do you like most about the Houzz Pro+ program?
It offers genius features to help home professionals build their brand and connect with homeowners. They can market their business by showcasing photos from their completed projects on their Houzz profile, which acts like an online portfolio and business card.
What is the onboarding process like at Houzz?
I have been at Houzz for a few months and I can’t believe how much I’ve already grown – it has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. Because of the support system, constant feedback from managers and teamwork that exists in the office, I was encouraged to reach for and surpass all of the professional and personal goals I had set for my first three months. I couldn’t be happier with the process overall.
What’s something that has surprised you about working at Houzz?
Definitely the ambience. Everyone is incredibly nice and helpful. It’s easy to feel like you’re a part of the family.
What advice do you have for others looking to start a career in sales?
Persistent patience, aligned with a positive, winning attitude and great attention to detail will lead to a successful sales career. Remember to break up conversations with potential customers into 85 percent listening and only 15 percent talking in order to understand the customers’ needs and deliver quality results.
How have you used Houzz at home?
While working as an architect, I used Houzz to communicate with my customers. Personally, Houzz is a great source for inspiration and market research.
