Cooking is easier – and faster – when you have the right tools at your fingertips. It’s the same for the builders and designers who use Houzz Pro. Senior Software Engineer Snir Hazan, who is as comfortable in the kitchen as he is using React, knows that providing pros with quick access to important documents is a recipe for success, for both their clients and their own businesses.

In one sentence, how would you describe what you do at Houzz?
I build and maintain tools on Houzz Pro that help construction and design professionals create and manage documents – like Proposals, Invoices, Purchase Orders and more – used to communicate with clients and vendors.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a chef. I loved the idea of feeding people and exploring the world through food. 

Becoming a chef was a personal passion, and cooking is a (slightly expensive!) hobby I enjoy in my spare time. I am fascinated by different cuisines and cooking methods, and I always try to stay curious and open to new tastes and traditions. 

As a fullstack engineer, I love creating things from the ground up, just like in cooking. Both involve combining different ingredients – whether flavors or technologies – to craft something people enjoy and find useful.

Tell us a little bit about your career. What did you study and what did you do before coming here?
I wanted to learn something practical with good future potential, so I studied computer science and economics at university. 

My career as a developer started here at Houzz. I came across an open position on a job-search site. Before I joined Houzz, I had heard of the company through friends, but I didn’t know much about the product. I was looking to work with the kind of technologies Houzz uses, so it felt like a great fit. I decided to take a chance and apply — and luckily, it worked out!

I now work on Houzz Pro, and it’s exciting to be part of building something that helps professionals succeed.

What is the best part about working at Houzz?
Without a doubt, the best part of working at Houzz is the people. Everyone’s super smart, helpful and just fun to work with. That makes a huge difference, especially when it gets busy.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love that my team works on the core part of the product and has a huge impact on the pro experience. By “core part,” I mean things like Estimates, Invoices and Online Payments – tools pros rely on every day. Our work helps them save time, look more professional and close more jobs. It’s meaningful to know we’re directly helping their business run more smoothly and grow.

What’s something that has surprised you about working here?
I was surprised by how much Houzz really supports flexibility — it’s something I really appreciate.

I mostly work remotely and usually go into our Tel Aviv office twice a week. Most of the team works similar hours, so it’s easy to coordinate and stay connected. This flexible, hybrid setup helps me stay focused and productive, so I can do my best to support our pros and the community.

Can you share a little bit about what you’re working on and how it’ll help our Houzz Pro users?
Right now, we’re working on a top-secret project I’m not allowed to talk about! [Laughs.]

The last project I worked on was AI-powered document creation, which saves pros time by generating estimates and documents from a short prompt, making it faster and easier than before. In fact, pros can create estimates more than twice as fast using our AutoMate for AI Estimates tool. The time they save helps them be more productive and focus on their business. Usage is growing, and there’s strong demand for more AI features. Feedback has been very positive so far!

What’s your favorite Houzz Pro feature?
I’m probably a bit biased, but my favorite Houzz Pro feature has to be the undo/redo functionality in Documents. It’s a total game changer! It makes working with documents so much easier and gives users confidence to make changes without fear. Even though it’s a pretty basic feature, it was something our users really missed in the editor and requested often, so it was great to finally bring it to them.
